:: A Marketing War

I just came up with this idea which i think it's great and if you don't agree with me, don't say a word. During the last two weeks, hundreds of unsatisfied people has been making protests and blocking the streets of my country in order to gain the attention of the government for a particular reason, or many, i'm not so sure.

The point is that, the people who carries a protest against government must understand that no matter how stupid it sounds, a protest is a marketing war. And the only way of getting the government's attention is to make it to the media, big time, *but* it won't work if the whole country is pissed off with you. It is a double sided sword, because you might end up in the media, for the mistaken reasons.

Then there was me, sitting on a bus, in the middle of a bloated street, cars were not moving and i was unable to name the place where i was because the driver though that taking this road would save some time and maybe avoid the traffic jam, caused by the street-blocking tens of miles ahead. Then, i though "what a stupid idea to try to get the government's attention!". There's got to be another way. And i've though of one. Sit tight cuz' here goes the explanation:

First at all, let me introduce you to the website for the congress of Costa Rica: http://www.asamblea.go.cr, which can also be routed by http://congreso.aleg.go.cr. As you probably know, this website is hosted in a server inside Costa Rica, probably the property of Racsa (http://www.racsa.co.cr). As a government site in Costa Rica, it is highly expectable that the bandwidth for a site like this is minimal. And so the mail accounts of all politicians should be pretty limited too.

You with me? Not yet? Ok, my idea, in a nutshell is to focus on something that attracts the media, but that won't make the whole country upset. You wanna block something? then block their fucking website and their stupid mail accounts!!!

[1] Bring their website(s) down and [2] Block their mail accounts. Now you ask how? For the first task, an application that runs from any machine connected to the internet, what it does is to send stress-requests to the page in question. You could say this is illegal, and even when i'm not so sure if there's any laws in Costa Rica against sending massive requests to a website, it is also illegal to block the streets, so...

Requests can't bring a website down you say? Dude, you ever heard of the slashdot effect?

Now for the second task, a similar application, that takes some particular text and randomizes it so that it doesn't look the same, then sends it several times to the mail address specified.

Imagine a website called: virtualprotest.com, you download the applications, and coordinate with your people to make an attack/protest to certain websites and mails at a certain moment, or during a certain period. Call the media and notify them about the event, let them witness the power of a focused protest. Then the media will notify the rest of the country and they won't be upset. Politicians would have to listen to you if the want their porn and viagra mails back, as well as their sucky websites.

:: 23 years ago, I was born

If i would die today, i'd die happy.

Many things i'd let undone, many dreams and goals, friends and people i care about. Many unread mail spam, secrets never told, pictures never taken and stories never shared. I'd let a lot of phone calls unmade, many creative waste of bits and bytes never posted in this blog, many gadgets never bought, and clothes and shits.

Way too many places where i would've liked to be, i'd never see. And a lot of romantic stuff left pending, and sentimental stuff, and ethical challenges and personal business. Dreams of money and beers and kisses and vectorized landscapes.

Despite it all, i'd die happy, because i've gotten the golden piece of my puzzle back, just in time.

:: Dear Boss

As required by my contract of employment, I hereby notify you my intention to leave ArtinSoft, being September 17, 2004 my last day of work as Web Engineer.

I have decided that it is time to move on and I have accepted a position elsewhere. The most remarkable reasons leading to this decision are already known by you; and I'm confident of having your support in this new quest of mine.

My contract of employment requires me to work for a further four (4) weeks from today, however, I wish to request being released on an earlier date because my new employer wants me to start working on September 20, 2004. I treasure all the things I learned in this department and you can be assured that I will do all I can to assist you in the smooth transfer of my responsibilities before leaving.

I will tender you a printed copy of this letter with my signature on it in a few moments.

Sincerely, Allan Rojas.

:: Two Wishes: Part I

I talked about genetically enhanced human beings a few months ago suggesting that an interesting add-on to humans would be the ability to sleep 5 hours or less per day. The idea is not that bad, but sleeping is required because your brain gets tired of all the information you face everyday.

How about two different enhancements instead?. First, adrenaline emulation control.

You achieve the best of your physics and mind capabilities when your body releases the chemicals named epinephrine and norepinephrine, along with the hormone cortisol. Depending on the amount released you can do incredible things like jumping from one building to another, ala Matrix.

However, when your body runs out of these, fatigue jumps in and you're a complete waste. Imagine if you could just buy adrenaline enhancers the same way you buy orange juice! A quick injection and you get a full emulation of the worst scary moment ever; then voilá! adrenaline is released and you're ready to give 150% of performance.

Now is when you start talking about risks and possible mental disorders, but in my opinion, just put in the safety label something like: "don't take more than X adrenaline enhancers per day" and "customers who bought the adrenaline enhancer also bought hyper-relaxer pro" - which could probably be the counterpart making you run out of energies and forcing you to rest.

Tomorrow i'll continue with the second part of the Two Wishes.

:: I had a dream, which was not all a dream

I can remember... the feeling of tears coming up, tiers of sorrow and grief. And regret... Containing them hardly. Change the subject and smile?. No, keep talking. Keep saying the things you feel. This is when. She wants to hear you. Her eyes locked on you, saying a million things without moving her lips. Do the same, think carefully, talk slow, focus on her eyes, the words are coming by themselves...

... wake up.

I touched her heart... hell i surely did!!! Should not be posting here. You learn to like someone when you find out what makes her laugh, but you can never truly love someone until you find out what makes her cry.

:: Never ruin an apology with an excuse

True remorse is never just a regret over the consequences of what you made wrong; it is a regret over the motives you had in the first place, even if you can't understand them.

Before searching for forgiveness, analyze the motives of your actions before the consequences. What made you act that way? How many exits you had before deciding to lock yourself inside? Then learn that the very first mistake you made was opting to act that way - or sometimes, not to act at all against something.

Learn to never make the same mistakes again, understand that the situation forced you to take the wrong decisions and that consequences - as bad as they can be - made you wiser in the end.

Then try to heal the harm you caused with the best of efforts.
